Shaelyn was born with an extra baby tooth and an extra permanent tooth.
You can see the extra baby tooth in this picture on her left hand side of her mouth.
We had known for a while she had an extra baby tooth but until the dentist did X-rays this summer we didn't know she had an extra permanent tooth too. Unfortunately that extra permanent tooth was shifting all her teeth over which would result in the tooth coming out in the roof of her mouth. We didn't want this so we enlisted help from a Pediatric Oral Surgeon, Dr. Otte, to take the tooth out a couple days before Christmas. They took more X-rays and realized they would need to put her to sleep all the way
instead of just partially. So we quickly got a note from her Pediatrician's office and they cleared her for surgery the next afternoon. It was hard because she couldn't eat or drink after midnight! She was AWESOME about it and was so calm about the whole thing.
Her nurse named Hope (pictured below) was so AWESOME with her and
kept her calm and stayed with her through the whole thing.
The sticker on her forehead shows them her temperature.
She put a matching one on Brayden and he kept it on the entire time too for her.
In all they pulled 4 teeth; the extra permanent tooth and 3 baby teeth.
So now there is nothing in that spot to get in the way for the future teeth.
After Shaelyn woke up she was crying (which is normal) and she asked for her family so we were all back there in the recovery room with her. While we waited for her to wake up fully the Dr. pulled up a chair and made us feel better by talking to us the entire time. Then Shaelyn announced she was ready to go home (to our Peoria house) and watch the movie How To Train Your Dragon and off we went. I held her for hours while we laid on the air mattress together and she said I'm glad that's over. We were too. We were so grateful that she didn't have any swelling or bleeding so we could drive to Wisconsin where she could enjoy her Christmas!
